Oil and Steel (2023)

For violin, electric guitar, and piano. Approximately 7 minutes. Sharp and cutting, with jarring, irregular rhythms. A very exciting, industrial piece, inspired by music of Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon. Includes some rhythms which may be unfamiliar and difficult to performers, but are quite performable with practice.

Nocturne: Ethereal Music (2023)

For 12 violins. Approximately 7 minutes. Flowing, somber piece inspired by the night sky.

Adrift (2023)

For soprano saxophone or violin, cello, and piano. Approximately 5 minutes. Meditative, tranquil piece that swells to a peak and returns again to stillness. Represents the feeling of looking at the ocean after a storm.

Twitch (2023)

For piano or violin. Approximately 4 minutes. A study of rhythmic development using a single, evolving motive. Violin version is very virtuosic. Very fast. Some folk music inspiration is apparent.

Landscape No. 3 (2023)

Two Dance Pieces (2023)

For clarinet, horn, violin, cello, and piano. Approximately 7 minutes, in two movements. Slowly-evolving movements meant for performance alongside dance. Trance-like repetitiveness.

Mediterraneana (2023)

For piano. Approximately 4 minutes. Brilliant, blinding work depicting sunlight reflecting off of the Mediterranean. Very rhythmic and groove-based. Works very well as a concert opener or encore piece. Also effective as a 4-hands work, with separate players for each hand.

For flute. Approximately 5 minutes, in three movements. Virtuosic work that explores multiple facets of the flute sound. Includes limited extended techniques. Inspired by various images of sunsets, real and imagined.

Meditation (2022)

For clarinet and violin. Approximately 4 minutes. Short character piece. Tranquil on the surface, but strange and twisted on closer inspection. Note: not actually that meditative.

Hypocrisy, or, a Musical Study of American Government (2022)

For famiola (six-string violin) and piano. Approximately 9 minutes, in three movements. Political piece, good for the musician filled with civic rage. Scathing, critical tone.

For violin and piano. Approximately 3 minutes. Inspired by late-romantic salon pieces. Dark and rich.

Preludes for Birds (2021)

Observations on the Flight Patterns of Angels (2020)

For saxophone quartet. Approximately 7 minutes. Extremely rhythmic and percussive outer sections with a lyrical, soaring middle section. Good work for closing a concert. Unique but very accessible harmonic material.

Saxophone. (2020)

For any saxophone. Approximately 17 minutes, in 13 movements. Amusing compositional études. Many are not fit for performance and are rather intended to entertain the player. However, several études in the set, especially the final movement, Chaconne, are quite melodic and enjoyable to listen to.

Sacrilege (2020)

For 2 violins. Approximately 2 minutes. Fast, dissonant, exhilarating work.

Sonata in A Major (2019)

Landscape No. 2 (2019)

A Heartbeat of the Universe (2019)

For piano. Indeterminate duration. Liberal use of extended techniques, including tone clusters and playing inside the instrument. Rhythms occasionally written as precise durations. Very experimental, avant-garde sound.

Variations on a Theme of Bach (2019)

For violin and piano. Approximately 5 minutes. Variations on the opening of the Chaconne from Bach's Partita in D Minor. Each variation is quite different from the others. Composed specifically to be extremely technically challenging for performers. Good showpiece.

Midnight (2019)

For clarinet, violin, cello, and piano. Approximately 5 minutes. Slow, lyrical outer sections bookending an exciting, jubilant fast section. Full, rich sound throughout. As a point of interest, the slow melody is derived from Silent Night.

For violin and viola. Approximately 10 minutes, in three movements. A series of character pieces depicting major scenes from Shakespeare plays. Outer movements are minimalistic. Middle movement utilizes double stops, giving it a breathing, organ-like quality.
